ACCELERATED THINKING 555

An effective teaching method

is one that breaks up learning

into 5 minute chunks.

5 minutes of listening & note taking

5 minutes of oral tell-backs

5 minutes of rewriting

This predictable sequence

is easy to handle,

even for kids who may

be labeled “distractible”

or “ADD.”

Q. How can this be used

with younger students just

learning how to write?

A. Writing can simply be copying

or tracing the words on paper.

Giving them a sheet of guide phrases or memory triggers

helps them follow along

with the speaker and

gives them something to trace.

The most important thing

is to keep the pencil moving

while listening.

This allows all the sensory memories,

visual, auditory,

kinesthetic and tactile,

can act together to develop

pre-reading and pre-writing skills.

“555” is a great tool for:

1. Keeping kids on task in class.

2. Keeping up their studies at home.

Try using “555” to help your

student or child study for a test.

You’ll be amazed at the results!
