MEMORIAL DAY 2003

Reflecting on the long lives
of my:
Grandmother Bailey
lived to be 90(?).
Grandfather Bailey
lived to be 92(?).
His daughter
Ruth Bailey Peterson
lived to be 93.

My Grandfather Peterson
immigrated from Sweden
but died of a
now preventable illness
at 35 in 1908(?).

Would he have lived
into his nineties
with current medical care?

My father made it to 82
even though he was buried alive
for several minutes at 65.

At 71 with
all these 90's types,
I see another 20 years
to work for fun.

It could be 30 more years?

Unless I have an accident
of some kind?
How will I spend those years?

I hope I can
get another new idea
each year.

I sure am having fun
learning and discovering
the world I didn't have time for
when I was younger.

Can I keep this up?

The doctor says yes.

What does he know?

I know there are many projects
to work on.

Just to say I did it.

Being on social security
gives me so much freedom
to do what I didn't do at 20.

Yes, I mean twenty.

That's how young my mind feels.

I'm sure that I can:

Learn something new
everyday I listen.

I can write a summary
of the new opinions
and my old ideas
that please me.

I hope my ideas please you.

I will still keep writing
even if they don't.

I hope my photographs please you.

I will keep shooting and sharing
even if they don't.

I am so happy
with the 700+ photos
we shot this Memorial weekend.

The photos allow me
to relive the two days.

Remember the events.

Remember my long history
with each
of our extended family members.

Respectfully,
Carl Peterson
